What is coaching and how can it benefit me?

Coaching is a proven process that quickly brings results, because both you and your coach are highly motivated and are working together on highly focused goals. You benefit by achieving goals faster, creating balance and enjoying the support of a non-judgmental mentor whose only goal is your success!

How long does it take to get results?

Normally coaches work with clients for three to six months. This really depends on you and what areas of your life you want to improve. In some cases you may start seeing results immediately. Again it's up to you. You may need help with a specific issue like making a career change. Or it may be simply better time management. There is no set time period, contract or commitment. You can end the coaching relationship at any time.

What is the cost?

Coaching fees run from $100.00 to a thousand dollars or more based on the coaches experience and his clients needs. The average is around $300.00 a month.

How does the coach work with me? Usually there will be three weekly one hour sessions. These sessions are done on the phone at a prearranged time schedule.

Do coaches offer a free initial session?

Yes, most coaches offer a free half hour discovery session. If at the end of the session you are ready to starting a coaching relationship great. If not that's okay. There is never any sales pressure. It's always a good idea to connect three or more coaches. Make sure you find the one that's right for you.

Do coaches offer any guarantees?

No, the only guarantees most coaches will make is that if you are motivated to make changes, they guarantee to provide you with their best coaching effort. Coaches are committed to your success and will work with you to overcome the challenges that will invariably come along.

Will I have to sign any contract for services?

Most coaches don't use any type of pending contract. If the coaching relationship isn't working, no coach would want to hold you to some type of contract.

What happens during these "coaching sessions"?

During the coaching session your coach and you will decide on areas of your life: career, relationship, etc that you want to concentrate. The coach may assign a task/homework to be perform during the week to help you.

In summary what a life coach does is through a series of phone coaching session the coach and you will form a bond - a relationship focused on one thing YOU! Career Success - 5 Great Reasons To Train Co-workers When It's Not Part Of Your Job

Career success involves more than going to work expecting to perform the regular duties listed in your job description. Just doing your job is part of the work-for-pay deal you made with your employer.

For some, the day will come when the boss asks for more. For example, you'll be asked to train others in a particular function, perhaps even your own job! It means more work, that isn't part of your current role, for the same pay. Should you be professional and accept the training assignment or be assertive and refuse to take it on unless they pay you extra?

Let's look at this situation a little more closely. There's more to it than first meets the eye. Here are 5 really good reasons you should always accept, especially when training is not your job!

1) Your paid job exists to further your employer's interests. Hopefully the employment relationship is one where both of you get as much as you need and little you don't.

There's nothing wrong with drawing lines in the sand if you're happy playing in a smaller sandbox indefinitely. However, if the employer is not asking you to do anything illegal, unethical, or immoral you should give training others your best shot without expecting extra pay because it's not part of your regular job.

You earn the right to get paid more for it by doing this training so well it adds irreplaceable and/or immeasurable value to your employer. Getting paid extra doesn't have to be money, many other forms of compensation recognize outstanding contribution "above and beyond" the call of duty. Several of these are even more valuable than cash.

2) When an employer asks you to do something out of your comfort zone, it usually means they see potential in you that you may not have noticed yet and are willing to invest in you more than others in the company. They gamble that you will come through for them as needed. (After all, they are taking a risk you'll deliver an acceptable result.)

3) When an employer asks you to take on training others specifically, they are placing the future of their company in the hands of your perceived abilities, experience and expertise. If that's not a tremendous vote of confidence in you, I don't know what is. Sometimes they've asked you because they have big plans for your future; plans they haven't shared yet.

4) Such an assignment exponentially increases your network and visibility. Career success is not about who you know; it's about who knows you! People you've helped train to be successful make great allies and supporters for you in the future. Nothing beats a word-of-mouth testimonial for your professional contribution, support and expert knowledge.

5) Stepping outside of your defined job role is the fast track to success. Quite often rapid career success happens because someone in power was willing to take a risk on you (sometimes a risk so large failure could cost them their own reputations) even though the true extent of your abilities is yet unknown and unproven.

Accept the challenge and you just might find many of the career opportunities that bring you the greatest satisfaction would never have been experienced if you hadn't. There's a pretty good chance they were never on the list of things you planned to do with your life.

We live in a world of unlimited possibility. Don't shut yourself off with short-sighted thinking by not accepting a great assignment just because no extra pay is offered up front or it's something you've never done before and you're afraid to give it a try.

Does fear play a role in holding ourselves back? It does, but only if you let it. Successful people don't have more courage than average people, they're just willing feel the fear and take that next step into the unknown anyway. And they are willing to do more than average people will not, even when the payoff is not immediately apparent and no extra cash is involved.

How You Can Succeed In Life Without A High IQ

The second boy bends down and tightens his shoes laces, looks up, grins and says, "What do you mean WE? All I have to do is run faster than you !"

The first boy may have used his book knowledge and quickly got to the bottom of their problem, but his analysis did not bring him far. The second boy however, had a good grasp of the situation, was able to think out of the box and find a creative solution for his survival. Successful entrepreneurs or managers often find themselves in new and unknown territory that need creative problem solving skills. Such talents are inborn but can be trained. Using experiences and knowledge that we have in our minds and information that has been perceived by our senses, we can often find adaptable solutions to our problems. Such talents make the human race a hardy and adaptable specie that has ensured our survival in untold calamities throughout our existence on earth.

Knowledge can indeed by useful but it is the application of knowledge that makes it powerful. Often knowledge is gleaned from our experience in life, stored away in the recesses of our memory, to be retrieved for our use. Our experience than compares the knowledge against our past success or failures and it is our creativity that shapes our destiny. Our early ancestors may have been cut by a sharp stone. Such an experience, together with his creative intelligence help him conjure up a weapon, a spear or arrow made up of a sharp stone splinter secured at the end of a stick. Through trials and errors in launching his new weapon, our ancient hunter eventually finds his aim and becomes a formidable predator.

So if you were never at the top of your class, fret not. Exercise some imagination and ingenuity. Use your life experiences and memory to think of a creative solution to a problem. You may yet give birth to a million-dollar idea

Antidote for Depression

When your inner self is left vulnerable to the whims of your fertile imagination, trouble will likely ensue. Your mind will remain in control only to the degree that you are unable to separate from its images and be inner directed instead.

Whenever depression begins to get a grip on you, it is imperative that you sit still and calm your mind. From this point of stillness, watch the myriad of images and thoughts pass by the field of vision of your mind's eye.

Thoughts of worthlessness, insecurities, past failures, regrets and resentments will emerge. Watch these troubles objectively, as if sitting on the river's edge watching a leaf being carried downstream. You remain outside of and separate from the river, watching but unaffected by its swift current. In the same fashion, stay separate from the often powerful stream of negative thoughts and images that flow by your inner vision.

Stay out of this current while remaining ever watchful and respectful of its force, but never resenting what you may see. Resentment binds one to the thought or image.

By detaching from these negative thoughts and dispassionately viewing them, you will be released from their further control. Do not struggle with these thoughts. Diligently remain separate and objective and the depression shall lift.

Particularly note those negative thoughts and images which are repetitive. Choose to refuse to allow these habitual thoughts to continue to have impact on your day to day activities any longer.

Realize this potentially life altering truth. This choice is yours to make. Realize the power only you possess to choose which thoughts you will allow to permeate your being and shape your reality. Realize that the thoughts you hold from moment to moment, shape your experience and ultimately your destiny.

Building Your Coaching Business -- People Buy From Those They Know, Like and Trust

Here is something that could make a huge difference in whether you succeed at coaching, and by how much. There are some gold nuggets here that will either make your coaching business, or make it one of only 1% that reach over $100K.

Reduce Your Prospect's Risk

There is a difference between marketing and selling a low cost product or service, and selling what most coaches market and sell. If you are selling a $10 item, the risk is low, and it is easier for your buyer to take $10 out of his pocket. However, when it comes to marketing and selling higher end products, such as coaching, the buyer won't just pull that out of his pocket without knowing more about you, finding if he likes what you say and your approach, and learning to trust you first.

So, how does that happen?

Let me ask you some questions:

Based on whatever you've done to market or sell your business up until this point,
What percentage of every touch results in your prospect actually asking for the next step?
Is it 20% to 70%?
Do you get even 5%, 1%?
No? Not surprising when over 90% of all coaches fail within months, and most never make more than $20K.
Then seriously consider what I am about to tell you because when you use the approach with an understanding of what your prospect really wants, I've seen it regularly deliver in the 20% to 70% range.

Consider that the national average for most marketing ranges between 0.5% to 1% and good cold one-touch marketing can hit 5% to 10%, yet once you help your prospect to get to know you, like you, and trust you, then it is possible to get to 20% to 70% of a very targeted audience.

Go For The Throat Sales & Marketing vs Relationship Marketing

Most coaches "go for the throat" in sales, meaning that on the first touch they are "trying to sell" rather than building the relationship so that the ones they are touching get to "know, like, and trust" you. The typical result is an abysmally low marketing and sales success number.

I hear a few coaches out there saying, "We don't go for the throat. We don't aggressively sell. We do dig for what the prospect wants." But then you still "go for the sale" outright. I'll give you this, if you follow that process you should be getting 5% or so for your marketing returns and that is probably higher than 90% of all coaches out there. Great! But, once you get what I'm about to say, 20% to 70% is possible.

So, when you attempt any kind of marketing what is your current response rate? Do you get 1 out of 100, 5 out of 100, 50 out of 100, or anywhere near those figures?

Here are a some approaches that do work, and they are pretty similar.

How are they similar. They both are built around

  • Understanding your target audience's biggest pain, and desires.
  • Sending out information that actually shows them how to resolve that pain, and telling stories about others that had that very pain and removed it by doing [fill in the blank].
In short, give away a concept that can help your prospects. Give them a taste of what it might be like. You are not telling what YOU do step by step, you are only giving a hint or tip that has helped other clients and the value they got. The value is how much they benefited, how much their business grew, or for you life coaches, how much better their life is (the more measurable the better).

I always hear coaches grumble when I say "give it away." Many will say, "If I give it away then they don't need me and don't buy." Then, indeed, you gave away the farm. I've found, however, that you give enough of an idea that they do see that you have some answers, and then you help them discover that the last client [doubled his business, increased by $100K, $500K, or whatever]. And, then tell the story of a client or two that experienced the same pain as your current prospect, and how much he gained. That's all.

So, that's the overview. How might we do that. Here are some ways to "give it away" while helping your prospect to "get to know you, like you, and trust you."

  • Article Marketing On The Internet -- Write several articles a week around the concept above. Have a call to action at the end of the article that takes them to a single page that asks them to sign up for, an email series, an e-book, newsletter, etc. Those continue the "get to know you, like you, and trust you." A good target is 40-60% of those that land on that page ask for more.
  • Article Marketing Direct - Send letters directly to your target market introducing yourself, telling them the benefit you bring, and then send a few articles to them over the next few weeks, followed by a call to ask them if that was helpful. Response rates reported to date are 20% to 70% appointment setting rates.
  • Speeches or training - get out there and give as many speeches as you can. A good rule of thumb is a speech a week to trade associations, business associations (Kiwanis, Rotary, Lions, Chambers, and many others). One speech can lead to one or more clients. Make sure that you have a follow-up system that looks like the article marketing above. Keep the "getting to know you, like you, and trust you going". Then follow your list up with a call to discuss their issues and why they asked to get to know you.
  • Networking - Once you meet in a networking event, ask them what their goals are for their business, and, it is likely you just may have an article that you published on that topic. So, ask them if they'd like to receive that article, or sign up for your list. Send them the series of articles, and follow it up with an appointment to just see if that was helpful, or if they have another problem.
NOTE: a key point here is that everything is all about them and their problem, not about your sale. All of the articles answer a problem they have and indicate that you have helped others do that. Every contact, whether in networking, or a speech, is about their problem, and not about your product, your coaching, or you making any kind of sale. It's about them, and then showing that you have the solution.

The series of articles are to "get to know you, like you, and trust you." They now have sampled your wares and WANT you.

Please keep in mind, even though we are building relationships, helping them to "get to know you, like you, and trust you" that it still does require that you ask for the close in such a way that you are still emphasizing that you are here to help, not to sell. Without that call to close you've still left the best approach in the world just setting on the table.

So, does your current marketing and sales result in

  • 1%, 5%, 10%, or anywhere near 20% to 70% of the people you touch calling you?
