Why You Should Learn to Appreciate Your Partner

By Renacent Anugwom Ugonna

I have come to realize that many people really ignore the importance of appreciating their partner. Appreciations have lots to do with our emotions and we must learn how to sincerely appreciate our loved ones.

Some people believe that it is only when their partner does something 'big' that they are expected to show appreciation. Showing appreciation here means saying: 'thank you'. The truth remains that 'thank you' seems difficult to many people and I don't know if it is to you.

I used to struggle with saying 'thank you' to my partner when she does something which I tagged 'small' but after realizing the harm I was doing to her, I changed for better. No matter how little something seems to you, if you can formulate the habit of saying 'thank you sweetheart, thank you my angel' etc, you sure to be adding love and emotional attachment in your relationship.

The fact remains that when we do something for our lover, we feel happy doing it and we expect them to show appreciation consciously or unconsciously and the same thing happens to our partner-they conscious or unconsciously expect us to appreciate them whenever they do something for us no matter how small or big they seem.

Appreciation can come from any format but the leading among them is; 'thank you'. You can extend the appreciation by cuddling, petting, doing something sensation as a result of what your partner has done for you no matter how tangible they seem.

Benefits of saying 'thank you sweetheart'

1. Your partner feels appreciated

2. Your partner feels loved and welcomed

3. Your partner feels emotional attachment between the both of you

4. It strengthens the love in your relationship

5. It can help motivate your partner to do more for you and the relationship

6. It can motivate your partner to start appreciating you too

When to appreciate your partner

As I have pointed out initially, appreciating your partner should come anytime your partner does something for you. Your partner must not do something exceptional but you have the responsibility of making it look exceptional through your sincere appreciation. For instance, I sincerely appreciate my partner when she brings in coffee for me, when she buys me something from the market, if she calls, text, chat or email me etc. You can see that most people see these things as normal and as a result, they forget to appreciate their partner. Some people sincerely ignore it but I'm urging you to stop it if you are among these people.

How to appreciate your partner

Well, if you want to appreciate your partner, stop looking at what your partner has done for you but concentrate more on your partner. When you concentrate on your partner, you are likely going to feel the love between the both of you and as a result, the appreciation will flow naturally. I tend to over look the act but concentrate on the doing which is my partner.

Open your heart whenever your partner does something for you. I have come to realize the power of mind openness in our lives and in our relationships. When you open your heart towards your partner, you will realize that everything done by your partner for you is worth the appreciation.

Be conscious of the act and imagine what it could have cost you to do the same for yourself or for your partner. Believe me, you may not realize the importance of what your partner has done for you until you become conscious of the act. Don't forget that being conscious of the act and concentrating on the doer are not the same: concentrating on the doer means seeing the love in your partner and to be conscious of the act means putting yourself in your partner's shoes. Even if your partner brings you a cup of coffee, appreciate it because it would have cost you extra seconds or even minutes to get it. Keep appreciating your partner and keep enhancing the love.
